I found these 3 morels on our ground in Arkansas. We moved here 3 years ago from Iowa and thought my morel mushroom hunting days were over. We live in the Ouachita Mountains just west of Hot Springs. So I know they are here, just need to find them. Since this picture, I have only found a few more. Hitting the hills, but no luck. Very few locals even know what a morel mushroom is and they look at me like I am crazy! These were found on April 8th. ~Jane

Putname County report: Josh & I filled four bags in two hours this afternoon. Some of the thickest brush and multiflora rose I've ever hunted in. The conversation went something similar to "OUCH! There's one. DAMMIT! There's another one. OUCH. WOW, Look at that one!" Repeat. I've got some scars and scratches, but I don't think any of them are permanent. They were all small to medium yellows (1" to 5" tall) and most were very fresh and were near dead elms. I'm headed for the Boyne City, Michigan National Morel Festival in the morning. I'm thinking there could still be some when I get back on Monday. ~Tom Nauman

SO FREAKING EXCITED TODAY!!! I have fantastic news that I found morels in Naperville, IL. While walking in the woods this morning, by pure chance, I stumbled across (2) morel mushrooms side-by-side... just sitting there next to the dirt path as if to say, "Oh, hello there - good morning" as I walked around a bend in the trail. I have never hunted or even consciously looked for morel mushrooms before, so this was a complete surprise. I was in awe! I was actually just hiking to hike, and occasionally looking for edible plants along the way - things like wild onion, dandelions, plantain, etc. Snapped some photos on my phone, and picked them gently up, couldn't leave those gifts behind. I didn't have much time before heading to work, but I looked around in the vicinity of these treasures, but nothing more... I am hoping that there will be more. What are the chances of finding more? Would only two be there, or if there are two, there has to be more (assuming that no one else has discovered them and picked any). Thanks, ~William

Jackson County, WV. My husband and I found 107 morels total in two big patches, on moist ground surrounded by tulip poplar and ash, in a grassy area in the woods: 46 were rather small yellow morels and 61 of them were nice, big, fresh, black morels. We could use some more rain but it's looking like a great start to the season. This is one of the best hauls we've had in recent years for this spot. ~Amanda W.
