Another fruitful Friday in Ogle County! 300 around one tree (like morel carpeting!) with a total for the day of 351. Converted to 8.75 pounds of yellows and a few greys. We are looking forward to a Mother’s Day Hunt and hope we see some more bounty! ~Linda

Two hours in Knox County, IL yielded lots of grays, and some good sized yellows today.  The yellows were so fresh they may have popped overnight with the warm nighttime temperatures. ~Norm

Results from the Midwest Morel Fest - Ottawa, IL: James Lippold, of Ottawa, found the largest morel mushroom in Saturday's Midwest Morel Fest Championship Hunt, received the $500 in prize money. Randy Dedecker received the $200 grand champion prize. Randy found 172 morels. And $75 prizes went to Bob Wise for men's first place; Agnes Ciezadlo for women's first place; Robert Rzepien for men's second place and Wendy Reckers for women's second place. ~Tom Nauman

SHROOMATION! I did a run out to one of my favorite mushroom spots that is known to have both half-free (Morchella semilibera) and yellow morels (Morchella esculenta). Found 7 half-free morels, so the yellows are not too far behind. This marks the beginning of the morel season for me! ~Mark S.

Jackson County, WV - Took my kids and husband out to our usual spot; sunny, grassy spot in poplar/ash woods.  Found 32 black morels and 3 small yellow morels.  The yellows aren't up yet in my most reliable patch.  Try again next week.  Too cold yet.  ~Amanda W.

Hello Tom, Has been a long cold winter, morel season is at least 2 weeks late. Today May 1st spotted my first two tiny Blacks, Morchella elata species, just north of Toronto. Hope will be a grand season for everyone. ~U/L
